20.000 κόσμος τιμά τους Senna – Ratzenberger στην Ίμολα [w/video]

Περίπου 20.000 κόσμος μαζεύτηκε χθες στην πίστα της Ίμολα, για να τιμήσει την μνήμη τον δύο αδικοχαμένων πιλότων, εκείνου του μαύρου σαββατοκύριακου πριν από 20 χρόνια. Ανάμεσά τους, για λογαριασμό της Scuderia Ferrari ήταν ο Fernando Alonso και ο Kimi Raikkonen, μαζί με τους Jules Bianchi και Pedro de

Στην στροφή Tamburello, υπήρξαν σύντομες ομιλίες από ανθρώπους που γνώριζαν τον Ayrton Senna και τον Roland Ratzenberger και στις 14:17, την ακριβή δηλαδή ώρα που ο Βραζιλιάνος είχε το μοιραίο ατύχημά του, κρατήθηκε ενός λεπτού σιγή. Παρόλο που ο Alonso και ο Raikkonen δεν αγωνιζόντουσαν την ίδια περίοδο με τον Βραζιλιάνο, ο Ισπανός είπε κάποια λόγια:

Μπορώ να θυμηθώ τις φωτογραφίες στις εφημερίδες και τις ειδήσεις στη τηλεόραση για τις μάχες της McLaren, ανάμεσα σε Alain Prost και Ayrton Senna. Είχε τον αριθμό 1 στο μονοθέσιό του και ενώ έτρεχα στα καρτ τον σκεφτόμουν με το κίτρινο κράνος του να κερδίζει πάντα. Όταν αγωνιζόμουν στα καρτ στην Ιταλία, δούλευα με κάποιον που ήταν παλαιότερα μηχανικός του, όταν αγωνιζόταν στην ίδια κατηγορία. Μπορείτε να φανταστείτε πόσο σημαντικό ήταν αυτό για μένα. Είχα την αφίσα του στο δωμάτιό μου.

Το μόνο θετικό από το σαββατοκύριακο που μας πήρε τον Ayrton και τον Roland Ratzenberger, είναι πως από τότε η ασφάλεια βελτιώθηκε σημαντικά στην Formula 1. Βασικά, μπορούμε να πούμε πως μέσα στα μονοθέσιά μας υπάρχει κάτι από την κληρονομιά του Senna και του Ratzenberger, γιατί μετά το 1994… όλα άλλαξαν.

Ο Raikkonen, ο οποίος δεν είναι γνωστός για την μακρηγορία του ή για την αγάπη που έχει για τις ομιλίες, ευχαρίστησε και αυτός με την σειρά του τους δύο πιλότους, που άλλαξαν με το θάνατό τους τα επίπεδα ασφαλείας της Formula 1.

Ήμουν πολύ μικρός. Είδα το ατύχημα στην τηλεόραση και αυτό που θυμάμαι περισσότερο είναι οι συζητήσεις που είχαμε στο σχολείο την επόμενη μέρα. Ο Senna ήταν πολύ σημαντικός για την Formula 1, σαν οδηγός και σαν προσωπικότητα. Ο θάνατός του οδήγησε στην ταχύτατη βελτίωση του επιπέδου ασφαλείας στο άθλημά μας. Αυτό απέτρεψε άλλες συμφορές από το να συμβούν.

Δυστυχώς όμως, κανείς δεν μπορεί να αλλάξει το παρελθόν, ούτε για τον Ayrton, ούτε για τον Roland Ratzenberger. Το μόνο που μπορούμε να κάνουμε είναι να θυμόμαστε αυτόν τον πρωταθλητή, τα κατορθώματα του οποίου όρισαν την ιστορία της Formula 1 για πολύ καιρό.

Εκτός των ανθρώπων που ήταν στην πίστα Enzo e Dino Ferrari, εκατομμύρια άνθρωποι ανά τον κόσμο τίμησαν την μνήμη των δύο πιλότων, ο καθένας με τον δικό του ξεχωριστό τρόπο. Tweets από οδηγούς του MotoGP, δηλώσεις από ανθρώπους της FIA, ακόμα και προπόνηση πριν από αγώνα, με κράνη όμοια με αυτό του Senna, από την αγαπημένη ποδοσφαιρική ομάδα του Βραζιλιάνου, τους Corinthians.

Μπορεί οι δύο πιλότοι να έχασαν άδικα την ζωή τους εκείνο το μαύρο σαββατοκύριακο του ’94, αλλά τα ονόματα και οι ιστορίες τους δεν θα χαθούν ποτέ από την μνήμη μας.

Emotion and passion today at Imola’s Enzo e Dino Ferrari Circuit during the event organised to commemorate the twentieth anniversary of the deaths of Ayrton Senna and Roland Ratzenberger. Paying tribute on behalf of Scuderia Ferrari to the two drivers who died back in 1994 were Fernando Alonso, Kimi Raikkonen, Jules Bianchi and Pedro de la Rosa. With them was the Director of Racing Activities Antonello Coletta and the Sporting Director, Massimo Rivola.

From the pit straight, the drivers walked down to Tamburello corner, where in beautiful sunshine, there was a short commemoration service in honour of Ayrton Senna who died at this spot. There were brief speeches, bringing to life the memories and recollections of those who had known the great driver from Sao Paulo. At 14h17, the exact time that the driver crashed at the wheel of a Williams on lap 7 of the San Marino Grand Prix, a minute’s silence was observed.

Even though they never raced in the Senna era, both Fernando and Kimi had words to say about the Brazilian champion. Particularly touching was Alonso’s recollection.

“I can well remember the photos in the papers and seeing on the TV news the stories of the duels between the McLarens of Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna. He had the number 1 on his car and I raced karts thinking about him, of his yellow helmet that was always winning,” said the Spaniard. “I also competed in karting in Italy, working with someone who had been his mechanic when he raced in that category and so you can imagine how important that was for me. I had a poster of him up in my bedroom. The only positive thing to come out of the weekend that took Ayrton and Roland Ratzenberger away from us was that, from then on, safety in Formula 1 improved significantly. In fact, we can say that inside our cars there is something of the legacy of Senna and Raztzenberger, because after that terrible 1994, nothing was ever the same again.”

As for Raikkonen, he had this to say about Ayrton:

“I was very young. I saw the accident on TV and what I remember most is that, the next day at school we talked about it. Senna was very important for Formula 1, as a driver and a person and his death led to a rapid acceleration in the process of increasing the level of safety in our sport. That has avoided other tragedies from occurring. Unfortunately however, one cannot change the past, neither for Ayrton nor for Roland Ratzenberger. The only thing we can do is remember this champion, whose exploits defined the history of Formula 1 for a long time.”
