Shops open on Sunday (02/11) on a voluntary basis

Shops were allowed to open on Sunday (02/11) up until 20:00, as is provided by law for this first Sunday…

The Federation of Private Employees of Greece (OIYE) responded by calling a strike for Sunday, rejecting the idea of people working - or even consuming - on a Sunday. OIYE believes that allowing shops to open on Sundays only benefits larger commercial shops and shopping malls, causing turnover losses to smaller shops, already under severe pressure from reduced consumption and increased taxes.

Despite the strike, many shops took advantage of the rare opportunity to remain open on a Sunday, hoping additional income would more than offset their added costs for the day.
