Μέχρι στιγμής έχουν ρίξει πάνω από δύο τόνους λαχανικών στα ζώα και οι επιχειρήσεις συνεχίζονται. Την ίδια ώρα, με πτήσεις συνεχίζεται η διακομιδή τροφίμων σε περιοχές με καταφύγια όπου υπάρχουν τραυματισμένα ζώα ή πληθυσμοί που δεν μπορούν να τραφούν.

Ο Υπουργός περιβάλλοντος της Nότιας Νέας Ουαλίας Ματ Κίαν δήλωσε ότι ενώ πολλά ζώα κατάφεραν να εγκαταλείψουν τις περιοχές με πυρκαγιές έχουν μείνει χωρίς πηγή τροφής καθώς η φωτιά αφάνισε τη βλάστηση γύρω από τον βραχώδη βιότοπό τους.

Ο Υπουργός δήλωσε ότι τα μικρά αυτά καγκουρό μπορούν να διασωθούν χάρη στην επιχείρηση και ότι θα παρακολουθούν τα είδη για να ελέγξουν την πρόοδό τους ως μέρος της διαδικασίας ανάκαμψης μετά την πυρκαγιά.

Την ώρα που πολλοί δρόμοι είναι αποκλεισμένοι λόγω των πυρκαγιών που μαίνονται, τα ελικόπτερα και τα μικρά αεροπλάνα, είναι σημαντικά μέσα μεταφοράς για την ζωτική αυτή αλυσίδα διάσωσης.

Australia’s wallabies are starting to be seen again in this national park.

Helicopter crews are dropping tonnes of carrots to wildfire affected areas to help give the animals a fighting chance of survival.
