Mitsotakis Vows Minimum Wage Will Exceed 950 Euros Before Election

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has vowed to boost Greece’s minimum wage to over 950 euros, reaffirming a pledge he first made in 2023.

Speaking to residents in Kozani, Mr. Mitsotakis said he was now certain the target would be met ahead of the next vote.

“In 2023 I made specific commitments. I told you then that the minimum wage would reach 950 euros. Now I tell you with certainty that before the elections it will have exceeded 950 euros,” he said

The prime minister used the visit to western Macedonia to highlight his government’s economic record and outline plans he will present at the Thessaloniki International Fair next week, including a roadmap to 2030.

He said New Democracy offered stability and progress, contrasting his party with rivals he accused of seeking only to remove him from power without a governing plan.

“To help society we must stand on solid foundations. To give wealth to citizens we must create it. That is our difference from other parties,” Mr. Mitsotakis said.

He also toured a new 101-bed wing at Mamatsio General Hospital in Kozani, funded by European and national resources under the Just Transition mechanism.

The four-story building will house surgical and internal medicine departments and a new high-care unit for stroke patients.

Mr. Mitsotakis said the upgrade was part of a broader effort to modernize the national health system, including a new oncology unit at the Bodossakio Hospital in Ptolemaida so patients no longer need to travel to Athens or Thessaloniki for cancer care.

Deputy Finance Minister Nikos Papathanasis said the projects showed how European and national funds were being used to strengthen infrastructure in western Macedonia.

The prime minister said he expected conditions in the region to improve significantly within a year, adding that the final employment balance from the lignite phase-out would be positive, with more jobs created than lost.
