Μια πρώτη ματιά στο ανακαινισμένο MoMa

To Μουσείο Μοντέρνας Τέχνης της αμερικανικής μητρόπολης ανακαινίστηκε, επεκτάθηκε και άνοιξε τις πύλες του στο κοινό παρουσιάζοντας έργα κορυφαίων ζωγράφων, αλλά και έργα σύγχρονων και πολύ διαφορετικών καλλιτεχνών. Θα κερδίσει άραγε τους φιλότεχνους η νέα του προσέγγιση;

Ολοκληρώθηκε η επέκταση και η ανακαίνιση του Μουσείου Σύγχρονης Τέχνης της Νέας Υόρκης και το μουσείο αύξησε τους εκθεσιακούς του χώρους κατά 30% επιδιώκοντας να προσφέρει μια πιο φιλόξενη και άνετη εμπειρία στους επισκέπτες του ενώ παράλληλα συνδέει

με καλύτερο τρόπο το μουσείο με τον αστικό ιστό του Μανχάταν.

The 2,000 square foot state-of-the-art Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Studio is the world’s first dedicated space for performance, process, and time-based art centrally integrated within the galleries of a major museum. The flexible studio can accommodate a range of seating and staging scenarios with a maximum seating capacity of 105 and a 20’ deep stage. In this space, performance, dance, music, and sound works connect to the stories of modern and contemporary art in the surrounding galleries through vestibule doors on the fourth floor and an overlook window on the fifth floor flex gallery. @themuseumofmodernart @genslernyc

The Blade Stair marks the threshold between the existing museum and the new expansion and acts as a palette cleanser. The stair is a vibrant urban sculpture that combines a monumental physical presence with intangible structural lightness made possible through a number of structural innovations. A six-inch thin vertical spine hangs from the roof structure to support the stairs and landings, leaving the structure free of any lateral bracing. @themuseumofmodernart @genslernyc

The double-height Flagship Museum store, located at the Cellar Level and open to the Lobby above, connects to the street visually, weaving the museum into the surrounding fabric of midtown Manhattan. From within the Museum, visitors can look down into the store from the adjacent Night Entry, West Connector Lounge, and Blade Stair in passing. @themuseumofmodernart @genslernyc

A new entrance canopy for the Museum of Modern Art welcomes visitors to a double height space from 53rd Street with an uninterrupted views across the first floor between 53rd and 54th Street. The bead blast stainless steel canopy reflects the total design of the renovation and expansion, which taps into the historic DNA of the building through a series of interventions that reflect aspects of 20th century modernism: purity of material expression, abstraction of space, and precise thinness. The massive but thin canopy, which is 42’ long at 95,500 pounds, appears to slice though the glass facade and float about the main entrance doors. It is able to cantilever 26’ beyond the facade of the building because of a steel rod suspension system support it and concealed ribs within its construction. @themuseumofmodernart @genslernyc

Η ανακαίνιση που ξεκίνησε το 2014, ολοκληρώθηκε και το ανακαινισμένο μουσείο άνοιξε τις πύλες του στο κοινό τον Οκτώβριο του 2019.

Μετά τρία χρόνια αποσπασματικών εργασιών, το μουσείο έκλεισε τις πόρτες του το περασμένο καλοκαίρι, ώστε να ξαναπαρουσιάσει αλλιώς τα έργα της καλύτερης συλλογής σύγχρονης και μοντέρνας τέχνης στον κόσμο, αφού εν τω μεταξύ στο κτίριο προστέθηκαν περίπου 4.500 τ.μ.

Η πρόθεση των ανθρώπων του MoMA είναι να παρουσιάζει περισσότερη τέχνη με νέους και διεπιστημονικούς τρόπους.

Το λόμπι έχει ανακαινισθεί προσφέροντας ένα φωτεινό διπλό σε ύψος χώρο που συνδέει τον 53ο με τον 54ο δρόμο της Νέας Υόρκης, ενώ με την ανακαίνιση δημιουργούνται νέες διαδρομές μέσα στο μουσείο για να μπορούν οι επισκέπτες να σταματήσουν και να θαυμάσουν τα έργα.

Η πρόθεση των αρχιτεκτόνων της Diller Scofidio + Renfro ήταν να δημιουργήσουν και ένα συνεχόμενο ελεύθερο δημόσιο χώρο που γεφυρώνει τους χώρους της τέχνης και τους πολυσύχναστους δρόμους.

Thanks to the redesigned circulation, the new western expansion of the Museum of Modern Art will be dedicated almost entirely to the display of art. More than 40,000 square feet of gallery space have been added to enable MoMA to realize a long-held aspiration: to present significantly more of its collection through a series of fluid, interconnected narratives of modern and contemporary art across all mediums. Part of this 30% gallery expansion includes a stack of vertical interlocking galleries of varying heights, some daylit and some equipped for performance and film. @themuseumofmodernart @genslernyc

The new galleries can accommodate over double the typical load capacity of existing galleries. The subtle shifts in palette marking the passage between old and new galleries include increasing 4-inch wide wooden plank flooring to 8-inch wide planks and blackened steel portals inspired by the Taniguchi-designed stainless steel portals. The use of these materials throughout the galleries helps differentiate existing and new, while maintaining a restrained visual conversation between the two. @themuseumofmodernart @genslernyc
