“I liken myself to The Fool in the Tarot deck. Every day is a new adventure." – Stuart Kaplan, Founder of @usgamesinc The tradition of Tarot owes its legacy to those that have helped to keep the form's twin flames of knowledge and artistry – alight. The Library of Esoterica team are forever grateful to these gatekeepers, in particular the generosity and support of Stuart Kaplan, Jennifer Kaplan, and Paula M. Palmer at U.S. Games. Kindly welcoming us to their archives, they became indispensible advisors and guides in the creation of our first volume, TAROT. Stuart Kaplan founded U.S. Games in 1968, after becoming seduced by the art and imagery of the cards. The company is now the biggest publisher of Tarot decks in the world, working with hundreds of artists and authors around the globe. We have Kaplan's enthusiasm and passion to thank for the form's continuing evolution and popularity, as well as for the revival and long overdue acclaim for the work of the great Tarot artist Pamela Colman Smith, creator of the most well known arcana of all time. Thank you, Mr. Kaplan, for all you do! ————————————— The Fool Card by Pamela Colman Smith from the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot, United States, 1910 – One of the most influential decks in the history of Tarot, the iconography, symbology and illustrative style of the Rider-Waite- Smith forms the foundation for countless modern visual interpretations of the arcana.

As many of you might know I have been working for the last few years on an upcoming book on the history and practice of Tarot. I have been turning to the cards each day for guidance and meditation. I thought it might be a time to share some of the things I’ve learned with you all as I find this practice a helpful way to connect, not only with ourselves, but with each other. ********************************* In Tarot, the structure of the Major Arcana is meant to reflect our shared human journey. ********************************* The Tower card represents momentous and radical shifts, revolutionary transformation that shakes loose foundations and topples traditions. The old way is no longer viable. Perspectives shift violently and finally, as the dust settles, the first new blooms push up from the rubble. In the Major Arcana structure, The Tower card is always followed numerically by The Star. ********************************* The Star illuminates, offering hope and inspiration. She is a reminder that everything needed can be found within. She brings a message of faith, heralding inner vision, spiritual power and the enduring beauty of the natural world. Her clear light penetrates through darkness, rays spreading ever outward as the unnecessary and false are stripped away. She reveals purity at the core of things. She stands at the wellspring, nurturing growth and encouraging clarity. She is generous and flowing in her offerings. She softly, gently opens the heart, igniting energy, fertility, creation. Her gifts are all the sweeter for the struggle endured. ********************************* Image of The Star card by: @artxman / Manzel Bowman · Manzel's Tarot · United States · 2017
